Talkin' Metaphysical Blues

(Jon Macey & Steve Gilligan)
2007-12-30
Jon Macey
I went down to the hospital, trying to do the impossible
Which is find someone there to get me well, I just been in a living hell
It’s called the real world
Now I really wasn’t sure, if I could ever find a cure
But as soon as I got myself in there, they started talking to me about managed care
Goodbye real world

Down to my shoes, I’ve got these metaphysical blues. (repeats after each verse)

As soon as I was released, I went off to find myself a priest
But the churches they had all been sold; they’re condos now so I’m told
It’s a cruel world
I finally found the preacher next to a landmark, preaching to a flock of people in the park, I said hey Father I need some hope, he said me too son better find the Pope
Goodbye cruel world

I went down to the TV station, perturbed about my situation
I cried about the machinations, obfuscations, and deprecations
A very very very pretty girl showed me some swine before which to throw my pearls
Like Moses saw the burning bush, I saw the nip and tuck face boobs and tush

At this point I needed some knowledge, so I ran off to enroll in college
But a psychotic Ph D tried to do his research project on me, little old me, me, me
Feeling a little bit foolish, I ducked into the grammar school
Where the anorexic moms express frustration by stealing their kids ADD medications
It’s a cruel world

Well, I know this tale is getting grim, with the herein, therein and the mortal sins
They say it’s all how you look at things, whether you’ll be crying or whether you’ll be singing
So beware of the road you’re a tookin’, you’re gonna have to eat what’s in that pot you’re a cookin’
And I better look where I’m a going, ‘cos I don’t want to go where I’m a looking
That’s right Lord

Down to my shoes, I’ve got these metaphysical blues.
